Quote of the Day: "The eyes of others our prisons; their thoughts our cages." ~Virginia Woolf
I had a great meeting last night with my critique group: The Sharks and Pebbles. They are an incredible bunch of authors. I am so happy to be in this group! Let me just tell a little about them.
Jaime is working on a very fun middle grade fiction about a villain who's terrible at being bad. She's witty, smart, and has done an amazing job organizing the LDStorymakers Conference for the past two years.
Scott writes middle grade fiction and is working on a cool adventure story about two kids who get stuck in ancient Iceland with the vikings. He knows a ton about everything and contributes a lot of wisdom to our group--especially about what works and doesn't work with male characters.
Taffy writes creepy, make your skin crawl YA fiction about aliens and psychotic serial killers. She's amazing at coming up with unusual concepts and pretty much knows everyone in the local writing community.
Yamile writes beautiful, lyrical YA literary fiction set in her home country of Argentina. She's clever with words and imagery and really good at getting into the hearts of her characters. We all love listening to her read.
You can check out their website by following the links on the right side of this blog.
And, in case you're wondering about our name--The Sharks and Pebbles, watch this video to see how we came up with it. **PG Content** :)
Last night was a great critique night! Thanks for posting the video. I'm going to add it to my blog.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to post about your writing abilities. Super Grammar Woman! Able to leap numbers like 11, in a single bound. And the way you can see the overall story and holes. Your newest story is awesomesauce. I was even thinking about Christian today! He's such a gentleman. Who taught him to be that way?
Julie, I'm so excited to read your work for WIFYR! The video was great. Sounds a little like our critique group when someone gets stuck and we're all brainstorming, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Taffy. What about the paragraph about how great YOU are?
ReplyDeleteP.S. the code word is whonp! Sounds like the noise the alien will make when it comes for you in the bathroom.
I absolutely love our group, the Sharks and Pebbles. And Taffy is so right, you're not only grammar woman, but query queen, a weaver of words and beautiful myths and love stories that stay with you forever. Even if we don't even know the name of your hero, yet. Because you don't even know. But how wonderful a writer you are that I already love him!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. You made my night.
Nobody can iron out a query like you. Our whole group is awesome. At first I was a little nervous about being the only guy, but my work is really benefiting from the different insights you ladies bring to my boy stories.
ReplyDelete"He knows a ton about everything"--well, I don't know about that.
Love that clip :) Your writing group sounds so fun.
ReplyDeleteI know several members of your group. Yamile was at my table in Boot Camp. She is an awesome writer. Jaime is all sorts of wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I love my writers group as well. Don't know what I'd do without them.
The others wrote your little paragraph already, so all I can say now is Sharks and Pebbles rock! *cheerleader jump* You guys have helped a ton, and I can't wait until we're all in the published and uber-famous club together. :)
